Corrective Services Division

A Deputy 1 conducts routine security and custody activities.  A Deputy 1 assists in maintaining and enforcing procedures and regulations to ensure security is maintained at all times in corrections and our satellite divisions.

Different work locations for Deputy 1 include:

  • Main Jail
  • Annex
  • Booking and Releasing
  • Visitation
  • Hospital Watches
  • Circuit Courts
  • District Courts
  • Transports

You can also become a member of special teams that are not jail-specific, such as:

  • Investigations
  • Corrections Training Officer Program
  • Training Division
  • SWAT
  • Dive Team

Deputy 1s work 8 hour shifts.  The shifts available are:

Day shift 7:00am-3:00pm

Afternoon shift  3:00pm-11:00pm

Midnight shift 11:00pm-7:00am

Shift assignments include the possibility of working weekends. Leave days can vary from Monday/Tuesday, Thursday/Friday and Saturday/Sunday. Leave days and shift preferential are awarded by seniority yearly.

Training to become a Corrections Deputy

At Oakland County Sheriff's Office, our commitment to training ensures officers to have the knowledge and skills necessary to do their jobs. MSCTC requires all corrections officers to receive a minimum160 training hours.

 Our training at Oakland County goes above and beyond, including 8 weeks of classroom training and 10 weeks of on-the-job training, followed by monthly training. We are dedicated to providing our officers with comprehensive training to ensure the safety of our community.

What you will need to apply

You will need to complete the Local Corrections Officer Physical Ability Test (LCOPAT) and written test (EMPCO). You will need to bring your test scores with you in order to be interviewed.
